Frequently Asked Questions

What is Spiritual Companioning?
Spiritual companioning, also called spiritual direction or spiritual mentoring, is a service that helps people explore and deepen their spiritual lives. As an interfaith spiritual companion, my job is to create a safe and sacred space where you can explore your beliefs, values, spiritual practices, and the role of the Divine in your life. Through conversation, contemplative practice, and guided mind-body techniques, we will explore your experience of the Divine and deepen your relationship with the sacred.

How is it different from counseling?

Counseling is a clinical relationship between a licensed practitioner and a patient who mutually work toward reaching the client's healing goals for their mental health, relationships, and quality of life. Spiritual direction is a relationship between a credentialed practitioner and a person seeking to deepen their connection with the Divine. While topics of conversation including life circumstances, perceptions, relationships, challenges, dreams, and desires may occur in both settings, Spiritual Direction does not include clinical mental health care.
